We currently have a breakage in Tumbleweed with the Budgie Desktop. This is a temporary workaround, so you can stay up and running, and still get updates.
This is just a repackaging, from scratch, back to the 10.9.2 stable branch of the Budgie Desktop
Existing Installations
sudo zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/sfalken:/BuddiesofBudgie/openSUSE_Tumbleweed home:sfalken:BuddiesofBudgie
sudo zypper ref
sudo zypper dup --from home:sfalken:BuddiesofBudgie
When zypper asks you to resolve conflicts, you’re going to want to select option 1 in each case, which will switch your packages from openSUSE:Tumbleweed to home:sfalken:BuddiesofBudgie
New Installations
If you feel you need to do a fresh install, do a “Minimal X Desktop” installation from the Tumbleweed Installer, and once the system is installed and you’re in iceWM, open xterm and do the following:
sudo zypper ar -p 90 http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/sfalken:/BuddiesofBudgie/openSUSE_Tumbleweed home:sfalken:BuddiesofBudgie
sudo zypper ref
sudo zypper in -t pattern budgie
Why this happened/What does this mean?
Currently, Tumbleweed contains unreleased preview software, based on git pulls from upstream BuddiesofBudgie, that enable experimental Wayland features. Unfortunately, those don’t actually seem to work for the majority of the users that have upgraded, since those versions were pushed. I am not the maintainer of the Budgie Desktop on Tumbleweed, and have just done this on my own, to give users a sensible fallback to the released, and well tested upstream code.
This post is not meant to imply any sort of wrongdoing on the part of the Budgie Maintainers on openSUSE, even if I might question their judgement in shipping pre-release git pulls, into what is normally a very stable rolling release distribution.
This repository is intended to be Temporary and when Tumblweed gets the appropriate fixes, users should be able to revert to the Main Tumbleweed Repositories, and I will remove this repository from OBS.
